LITTLE MISS COWARD.

Here I am, laying in bed writing a post about the inability of cowards to pick a single death, and trying to come to terms with the fact that I just spent the last five minutes of my life watching a camel give birth, all because I was too afraid to go downstairs to get a drink.

You see, I’m afraid  my creepy neighbor is lurking somewhere in the dark waiting for the perfect opportunity to start a conversation.

Conversations are good, involuntary 2 am conversations aren’t.

Ever since that one time he showed up mysteriously in the kitchen while I was having a midnight drink, I’ve been having a lot of anxiety. So now, I tiptoe around the house once its late or just watch camels birth their young hoping my thirst will vanish.

Little miss coward ( person who shows fear easily or is easily frightened ).

Fear is a very crippling feeling, you truly die many times before your death (the other night I woke up from my sleep, dress hanger in hand ready to charge at an “intruder” who turned out to be my cousin; poor weapon of choice)

For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

We have all at one point or another experienced fear, some of course experience fear to a greater degree than do others. Some people are able to  quickly get past it, while others get trapped and pulled down by it a.k.a laying in bed thirsty. Whether its a fear of what the future holds, loneliness, death, spiders, ridicule, failure, the fear of ignorance or rejection; fear is not from God, but rather that this destructive element comes from the devil.

We subconsciously attract what we fear, Job said upon the loss of all he had;

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. Job 3:25

Fear works contrary to faith.

But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me! Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”Matthew 14:30- 31

Peter was fine walking towards Jesus on the sea, until he saw his immediate surrounding and started to fear and sink. Instead of sinking in silence, he cried out to Jesus  and immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.

When fear creeps in, we are to cry out to Jesus acknowledging our human insufficiency and weakness.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are saved.   Proverbs 18:10

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Jesus helped Peter instantly, sometimes our help may not manifest instantly like Peter’s however, it’s comforting to remember that  Jesus did say He’ll never leave us nor forsake us Hebrews 13:5. Even in the most scary situation, we are not alone.

Although I plan to vacate this house for the next ten days, I’ll be back with renewed strength to face my fears. For God has not given Oyedoyin the spirit of fear, I have a sound mind, I do not walk on tiptoes around the house or go about attacking people with dress hangers.
